Sophie Won NSSA Open Girls #2 and then drove back to Jax just in time for her final at the Florida State Surfing Championships and took 3rd place in the 14-20 Jr. Womens Division. Way to go Kid! Ripping your way to all finals and surfing solid!
Sophie competed in the Surfing America Prime Event in Atlantic City N.J., She surfed well all weekend Having the lead in the final for over 15 min. That all changed when one of the best sets of the day came in and she wasn’t on either wave. with only 2 min. left she needed a high 4 unfortunately time ran out placing her in 3rd. Overall a great result in the Under 16 division and great surfing to get there.
Sophie won the Girls 11-14 Division at the Gnarly Charley Grom Surf Series Marineland event. The surf was small but clean and fun, She won all three heats she surfed to go undefeated for the day! Marineland is such a cool spot south of St. Augustine, really cool event!
Sophie was one of the up and coming groms featured in the Jax Beach museum exhibit honoring Feamle surfers from the first coast since the 60’s, She took part in the runway fashion show as well which featured some of the women in the exhibit. check out some of the photos:
Sophie Won the 2012 5th Annual Matt Rast Gray Memorial contest in Atlantic Beach, FL. She surfed well in the Queesn’s 16 & under Division, Also she skated in the skate contest in the AB Bowl and placed 2nd, just a fun overall weekend!
Sophie experienced her first NSSA East Coast Championships contest last week in sloppy 2-4′ conditions in New Smyrna Beach, With a staked heat in Round 1, She surfed very strong with high scoring snappy turns earning her 2nd Place and moved her to the Semi-Final or reporcharge round. With the waves not cooperating and breaking pretty funky she needed a 2 to advance to the final and just did not get it.
Sophie finished the NSSA season in 3rd place in her district and 8th over all at East coast championships, So Top 10 in her first season is a great accomplishment in our books!
Training hard with coach Tiffany of jacksonville Surf Training. Dawn patrol workouts when its flat keep sophie in shape and focused. Surf expo on friday and NSSA on sunday cant wait!
Awesome weekend The Matt “Rasta” Gray Memorial Surf Contest was yesterday and the groms were ripping the fun summer time surf on what seems to be the 1st real day without having to wear a wetsuit!
This morning sunburnt and tired, Sophie had a training session with Coach Sean Mattison. Seans approach goes from Pros to Groms and we wish we could train with him more. but he geared Sophie up with enough things to work on to keep her busy and pushing her contest surfing for quite a while. visit his site to learn more http://www.surfcoachusa.com. Thanks Coach Sean hope to see you soon!
Next up is a tough week F-Cat testing at school and ESA Regionals on Saturday and Sunday in St. Augustine!
Now that we are back into the swing of things we will be updating the site more often so keep checking back!
