October 19, 2013 was a fun day in Atlantic City, NJ For the First East coast Event of the 2013/2014 Surfing America Prime Season. And the Surf was really good all week, Sophie started off strong winning her first heat of girls u16. and Placing 2nd and moving on in u18. The semis were really intense, Sophie surfed valiantly but got edged out of the u16 in the last seconds, giving her an equal 5th place result and valuable points. The u18 semi was a different story firmly holding on to second and battling to maintain that position. Sophie made it to the u18 girls final and held in there taking 4th place respectively. She had a great event and really turned some heads dropping big scores.
There is a great article on the event at Eastern Surf Magazine, Thanks to Surfing America for the killer photo!
This summer was so fun! I got out of school in June and we had a fun swell here at home for 2 weeks, then it was off to California for 8 days to surf at USA Championships at Lower Trestles. We stayed in San Clemente and did the Trestles hike every morning with my friend Avery, we surfed Lowers and Uppers every day and then T-Street at night the waves were so fun!!! I do not like kelp though it’s slimy and freaks me out, but it does make your hair feel soft! And it keeps the waves clean! Usa Championships was fun and I met some new friends from Cali and Hawaii.
When we got home my BFF Fallon was here from Japan, she stayed the whole summer and I was so excited to see her, So we went to lifeguard camp together it was pretty fun. We surfed and swam everyday for the next few weeks. And then off again to Costa Rica. It was my first time leaving the country to go surfing. I went with a bunch of my friends to a surf camp with Lisa Andersen she is a 4x world champ and a really awesome person.
Lisa surfed with us and gave us tips everyday, the waves got pretty big so that was challenging but I figured it out! Costa was really cool, we saw monkeys, iguanas, crazy birds, horses, and even a tarantula preety cool stuff, Dirt roads, great surf, clear water it was awesome.
I also helped Tiffany with Jax surf training out with her surf camp that was fun working with all the kids.
I Also started working with a new coach Evan Thompson is his name, and he is a pro here in jax beach, he’s been training me to be a really good contest surfer so I can hopefully do well at prime this year, I want to try and make the USA team, I know that I have got to work hard. There is only 2 weeks left of summer vacation boooo, but it has been really fun!

We just returned from a trip to Oahu Hawaii, where Sophie trained 2 times a day for 10 days with Hawaiian team coach and Pro Surfer Kahea Hart, Kahea’s program is physical, challenging, and is one of the best. If you want to improve your surfing he is the guy to work with. From Mechanics to mental toughness and wave knowledge he covers it all. There is a reason the kids from Hawaii are winning all their events and this guy has a lot to do with it. Check his site out at: nsschawaii.com
Sophie Won NSSA Open Girls #2 and then drove back to Jax just in time for her final at the Florida State Surfing Championships and took 3rd place in the 14-20 Jr. Womens Division. Way to go Kid! Ripping your way to all finals and surfing solid!
Sophie competed in the Surfing America Prime Event in Atlantic City N.J., She surfed well all weekend Having the lead in the final for over 15 min. That all changed when one of the best sets of the day came in and she wasn’t on either wave. with only 2 min. left she needed a high 4 unfortunately time ran out placing her in 3rd. Overall a great result in the Under 16 division and great surfing to get there.
Sophie won the Girls 11-14 Division at the Gnarly Charley Grom Surf Series Marineland event. The surf was small but clean and fun, She won all three heats she surfed to go undefeated for the day! Marineland is such a cool spot south of St. Augustine, really cool event!
Sophie Won the 2012 5th Annual Matt Rast Gray Memorial contest in Atlantic Beach, FL. She surfed well in the Queesn’s 16 & under Division, Also she skated in the skate contest in the AB Bowl and placed 2nd, just a fun overall weekend!
